The Piekenierskloof plateau is situated 160 km north of Cape Town and 50 km from the Atlantic ocean as the crow flies. At 600 to 750 metres altitude these old, ungrafted bush vines, growing in sandy loam soils, are rejuvenate by cold air in the evenings during the growing season.

The Cape winelands experienced a persistently dry yet cool season in 2020. This led to the development of wines that exhibit an appealing freshness, notable concentration, and slightly lower average alcohol levels. The whites, in particular, displayed significant promise. In summary, the wines from 2020 are anticipated to have a slightly extended aging potential compared to those from 2018.

The grapes underwent a 24-hour cold soak, and during fermentation, the must was punched down in 3000-liter fudres three times daily. The pressing occurred just before the completion of alcoholic fermentation. The wine was then transferred to barrels, with 50% going into new 225-liter French oak barrels and the remaining 50% into older 225-liter French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation took place in the barrels, followed by a maturation period of 18 months before the wine was racked and bottled.

"This wine has a deep, dark purple colour. The nose reminds of red fruit, raspberry and cherries with hints of toast and vanilla from the French oak barrels. The pallet is full bodied with lots of tannin that will make this wine last for at least 20 years."
