2024 Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil is a family-owned estate based in Ladoix-Serrigny at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, where three generations of the Maratray family have built a reputation for classical, terroir-driven Burgundy. Today, siblings François-Xavier and Marie-Madeleine Maratray oversee approximately 16–19 hectares across Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Chorey-lès-Beaune. The domaine remains committed to traditional Burgundian winemaking, allowing each vineyard to express its individual character. Their Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is the crown jewel of the estate, sourced from one of Burgundy’s most prestigious white Grand Cru sites.

Located on the upper slopes of the Hill of Corton, Corton-Charlemagne’s high elevation, cool exposures, and limestone-rich soils produce Chardonnay with remarkable concentration, tension, and longevity. Fruit is harvested by hand and carefully sorted before gentle pressing, followed by fermentation and élevage in traditional French oak barrels. This adds texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s freshness and mineral character. The result is a Corton-Charlemagne that balances power and finesse, with vibrant acidity, chalky minerality, impressive concentration, and exceptional aging potential.

"The 2024 Corton-Charlemagne from Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil highlights the tension and chiseled minerality characteristic of the Pernand side of the hill. On the nose, it offers struck flint, citrus rind, white orchard fruit, and subtle, integrated spice from extended wood aging. The palate shows concentration alongside a driving beam of acidity. While it possesses the weight and structure expected of a Grand Cru, François-Xavier Maratray’s long barrel aging gives the wine the breath it needs to soften its chalky grip. Built for cellar aging, it will begin opening up around 2029–2031 and hold for 15+ years."
