NC- 1994 Weingüter Wegeler "Bernkasteler Graben" Spätlese

Founded in 1882, Weingüter Wegeler is a family-owned company. The family's fourth genereation, Ralf Frenzel is currently leading the business. With a concentration on Riesling, Weingüter Wegeler boasts two winery locations on the Rhine and Mosel rivers. The lineup was enhanced in 2007 with the 5-hectare Krone estate at Assmannshausen, which added a modest but excellent portion of Pinot Noir.

Vintage Notes
A mild spring was followed by a hot summer and the grapes were able to develop well.
The Riesling harvest began on October 10 and lasted until early November. We were able to harvest good qualities with a lot of extract and minerality. Due to noble botrytis, even Beerenauslese and a Trockebeerenauslese were possible. As a crowning finale, we were able to harvest ice wine on December 5.

"The color is an amazing saffron-gold and seems to radiate a deep light all its own. On the nose, the essence of apricot, golden raisins, tangerine and wildflower honey. And then it gets really interesting: this wine is completely dry, with bracing acidity throughout. Quince, yellow apple, red plums and a turmeric/ cardamom spice that's very enticing. What an amazing wine at 30 years-young, still brimming with life and a treat to enjoy now."
