2018 Domaine de Courcel Pommard "Grand Clos des Èpenots" Premier Cru

Pommard is one of Burgundy’s most distinctive villages, located in the Côte de Beaune just south of Beaune and renowned for structured, full-bodied Pinot Noir. Its 28 Premier Cru vineyards, including the celebrated Épenots and Rugiens, sit on soils rich in clay and limestone that give the wines depth, firm tannins, and a characteristic mineral edge. Among the village’s historic estates, Domaine de Courcel holds a particularly important place, with its vineyards encompassing several of Pommard’s most respected Premier Cru sites. The domaine’s wines showcase the appellation’s signature combination of power and elegance, expressing ripe red and dark fruit alongside earthy, savory, and mineral notes, with the structure to develop beautifully with age.

"Grand Clos des Èpenots is a monopoly of the Domaine. The plot of 4.89 hectares of land is located north of Pommard, at the start of the slope and is east facing. The soil, which is rich in clay and limestone, is brown and strewn with limestone rocks. The depth of the soil is around 40-60cm and its structure acts as a natural filter. The vines are about 60 years old and produce wines with aromas of red berries and also ripe white fruits such as peaches or apricots. The fine tannins are numerous and blend in nicely with the smoothness and the aromas."
