2023 Clos du Caillou “Bouquet des Garrigues” Rouge

The wine comes from 50-year-old vines in Le Coudoulet and Les Garrigues, located directly along the Châteauneuf-du-Pape boundary on the northeast side. Clay soils, rounded galets and the cooling Mistral combine to give the wine the generosity of the Southern Rhône while preserving freshness, perfume and finesse. Clos du Caillou has been certified organic since 2010, with all grapes hand-harvested and twice sorted.

The blend is 70% Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Counoise. Most of the fruit undergoes gentle, traditional vinification in concrete, while 20% receives carbonic maceration for added aromatic lift and approachability. Fifteen months in large foudres adds polish while allowing the fruit to remain at the forefront.

The fruit expresses itself vividly, supported by notes of sweet spices, a hint of licorice and thyme, reminiscent of the garrigue. The finish is supple and pleasant, with a nice length. This cuvée, a historic wine of the estate, presents a balanced and elegant ensemble.
