Nestled in the Coast Range Mountains' foothills, Elk Cove Vineyards was founded by Pat and Joe Campbell in 1974. The Campbells were drawn to the property's unique features, including its shallow soils, steep hills, and stunning vistas. They named their family-owned vineyard after the Roosevelt Elk that bedded in the cleared land before the vines were planted.

Elk Cove remains a family endeavor with son Adam Campbell joining his parents full-time in 1995. The vineyard was founded in a time when there were fewer than 10 wineries in Oregon and they are considered pioneers in the state's wine industry. Today, there are over 1,000 wineries in Oregon vying for vineyard sites like Elk Cove.
