- Châteaneuf-du-Pape
In 1984, Pierre Féraud started Domaine Eddie Féraud et Fils, named after his son. After growing up on the vineyard, Eddie now works full time with his father to produce outstanding wines from their vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They work with unstemmed grapes, without exogenous yeast, and the wines are aged in old French casks. The approach remains traditional, with a beautiful touch of finesse and elegance that are the trademark of the appellation.
"This serious, captivating Châteauneuf-du-Pape displays a medium ruby core with a garnet rim, transparent and day-bright.
The nose unfolds as a true bouquet: sun-dried Provençal herbs intertwine with pliant leather, woodsmoke, and savory grilled meat, complemented by sweet medjool date and umami-rich Japanese salty plum notes.
Impeccably balanced on the palate despite its 15% alcohol, which integrates seamlessly without any heat. The mouthfeel is remarkably smooth and refined, offering mature dried fruits, truffly earth, and game notes that have developed beautiful complexity with age.
While quintessentially Rhône in character, there's a surprising Burgundian elegance that evokes comparisons to a distinguished red Corton or Beaune Grèves from the Côte de Beaune. This exceptional wine, sourced directly from the East Coast importer (Alain Junguenet Selections), exemplifies the sophistication and nuance that mature Châteauneuf can achieve."
-Shawn Paul, Foxcroft Wine Operations Director
"Starting out, Feraud's 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is terrific, with a classic style in its leafy herbs, pepper, and dark fruit-driven profile. Ripe, concentrated and balanced, with terrific purity, as well as a mid-palate, it's well worth seeking out in this vintage. The blend is 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and the balance a mix of varieties, from the Pointu and Rayas lieux-dits (mostly sandy terroirs) that wasn’t destemmed and brought up all in foudre."
