The story of Lambrusco is deeply connected to the Chiarli family of Modena, widely regarded as one of the most influential producers of red sparkling wine in the world. It all began with Cleto Chiarli, the owner of Osteria dell’Artigliere in Modena during the mid-1800s. Like many restaurateurs of the time, Chiarli made his own wine to serve at his osteria, using Lambrusco, the region’s primary grape variety. The wine quickly became popular with his customers, so much so that in 1860, Chiarli took a bold step and founded Emilia Romagna’s first wine-producing company, Cantina Cleto Chiarli.
In the past, workers around Modena would refresh themselves with a light, pink, effervescent wine made from the runoff of grapes piled into carts on their way to the winery. The Chiarli family honors this tradition with their Brut de Noir Rosé. Made primarily from the Lambrusco Grasparossa grape, this wine achieves its delicate pink hue through brief skin contact, with 15% Pinot Nero added. The Brut de Noir Rosé is fully sparkling, produced through a single fermentation in an autoclave—an advanced piece of technology far beyond what the thirsty farmers of the past could have imagined.
"Violet-shaded rosé, delicate, well-structured, with intense fragrances of strawberries and raspberries and a lively round taste. Seductive."
