NC- 2022 Monte Rio Cellars Flame Tokay "Chandler" Vineyard

Flame Tokay, a member of the Vitis vinifera family, is traditionally enjoyed as a seeded table grape. Known for its crisp skin and rich, fruity flavor, it was widely planted in Lodi vineyards during the early 1900s. The region’s sandy soils allowed the grape to develop its signature "flaming" pinkish-red color, making its large clusters a favorite for eating. However, as consumer demand shifted toward seedless varieties, Flame Tokay nearly vanished from the market. Today, only a few plots of Flame Tokay remain, and we’re fortunate to receive a limited number of cases from Monte Rio Cellars.

"We fermented this wine on the skins for two days and age it in a pair of old neutral oak barrels for one year, and an additional year in bottle. Aromas of black tea, orange blossom and apricot, with a rich mouthfeel and bright fresh acidity."
